Product Description

The Whirlwind Micmute boxes are a great choice for controlling microphone or balanced line signals. They offer passive switching solutions that you can operate with a footswitch or a finger switch. There are three styles, each covering essential mic control functions. Each style comes in two actuator types: a heavy - duty footswitch (models PT, PM, PP) and a desktop finger - operated version (models PTD, PMD, PPD). Every box has a female XLR input and a male XLR output. When there's no signal passing through, the output mutes the connected audio device's input. All MicMute styles support phantom power for condenser microphones. The Micmute PM and PMD are Push to Mute switches. The input signal is usually on, and when you press and hold the switch, the signal is muted. It reconnects once you release the switch. The Micmute PT and PTD are Push to Talk switches. Normally, the input signal isn't connected to the output. Press and hold the switch, and the signal turns on and passes through. It disconnects when you release the switch. The Micmute PP and PPD are latching Push On; Push Off switches. Press and release the switch to turn the signal on or off. Each press changes the signal state. The PP and PPD have an indicator LED that works when the connected microphone preamp provides phantom power. A blue LED lights up when the mic is live. The Micmute PPD uses an indicating rocker switch with a red bar when the signal is on.

Using your Whirlwind Micmute is easy. First, connect your microphone to the female XLR input and the audio device to the male XLR output. If you're using a condenser microphone, make sure the audio device provides phantom power. For the Micmute PT and PTD (Push to Talk switches), when you want to transmit the microphone signal, press and hold the switch. Release it when you're done speaking, and the signal will stop. For the Micmute PM and PMD (Push to Mute switches), the signal is on by default. Press and hold the switch to mute the signal, and release it to bring it back. With the Micmute PP and PPD (latching Push On; Push Off switches), just press and release the switch to change the signal state. Notice the indicator LED on the PP and PPD. When the connected microphone preamp provides phantom power, a blue LED will tell you the mic is live. The Micmute PPD has a rocker switch with a red bar showing the signal is on. As for maintenance, keep the device clean and dry. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or moisture. If there's any dust, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe it. That's all you need to know to get the most out of your Whirlwind Micmute.
